Albert Bichot, Saint-Véran, Burgundy, France, 2023
Producer Profile
Albert Bichot brings to Alliance a comprehensive Burgundy portfolio spanning Chablis, the Côte de Nuits, the Côte de Beaune, the Mâconnais and Beaujolais.
With nearly 100 appellations produced across Burgundy and Beaujolais, the House offers exceptional breadth and expertise across the region. Founded in 1831, Albert Bichot is an independent, family-owned House now managed by the sixth generation, Albéric Bichot. Since then, they have consistently developed a unique position in Burgundy, combining the expertise of a historic négociant with the authenticity of its own vineyard holdings. At the heart of the Albert Bichot portfolio are its own vineyard estates, four of which are represented by Alliance and each with its own identity and terroir: Domaine Long-Depaquit one of Chablis' leading estates – 52 Ha. Domaine du Clos Frantin exceptional vineyard holdings in the Côte de Nuits – 13 Ha. Château-Gris a boutique, elegant expression of Nuits-Saint-Georges in the Côte de Nuits – 3 Ha. Domaine du Pavillon prestigious Côte de Beaune vineyards – 19 Ha. Across all four estates, the philosophy remains consistent: careful vineyard management, organic and sustainable viticulture, low intervention and precise winemaking designed to express the individual character of each site.
Viticulture
Produced in the Saint-Véran appellation of southern Burgundy's Mâconnais region, these vineyards surround the prestigious Pouilly-Fuissé area and extend towards the Beaujolais border. The Chardonnay vines are planted on a variety of soils, including grey marls, limestone marls and flinty clay, depending on the vineyard slope. This diverse terroir contributes both richness and distinctive mineral complexity to the wine.
Winemaking
Following alcoholic fermentation, the wine is matured on its fine lees to enhance texture, complexity and aromatic expression. The vinification approach balances freshness with richness, allowing the Chardonnay fruit to remain vibrant while developing additional depth and structure during ageing. The wine is aged for 8 to 9 months on fine lees, with 80% matured in stainless steel vats and 20% in oak barrels. This gentle use of oak adds texture and complexity while preserving the wine's floral character and mineral freshness.
Tasting Note
Elegant and expressive, this Saint-Véran offers delicate aromas of white flowers, ripe peach, pear and subtle hints of fresh almond. The palate is generous yet refined, combining ripe orchard fruit flavours with a pleasing mineral character. Well-balanced and structured, it finishes with refreshing freshness and lasting elegance.
Food matching
Ideal with grilled seabass, shellfish, roasted chicken and light cream-based dishes, where its fruit and minerality shine.
