Domaine Bonnigal-Bodet, Génésis, Touraine, Loire, France, 2024
Producer Profile
Domaine Bonnigal-Bodet is located in Limeray (Amboise), in the heart of the Loire Valley. Having been handed down from father to son since 1927, the estate is now run by the fourth generation of the family and long-time best friends Jean Baptiste Bonnigal and Stéphane Bodet, who took over together in 2015.
The vineyards themselves are stretched across a large range of terroirs, with a multitude of local grape varities, including Chenin Blanc, Côt, Sauvignon Blanc and Pineau d’Aunis.
Viticulture
Crafted in the heart of the Amboise appellation, this elegant red is born entirely from Côt grapes, harvested exclusively by hand to ensure uncompromising quality. Nurtured through organic and biodynamic cultivation, the vines—aged between twenty and thirty years—thrive in flint clay and flint sand soils, benefitting from an East to North‑East exposition and a continental climate with a gentle oceanic influence. Planted at a density of 6,600 vines per hectare and meticulously trained using the Guyot pruning method, they yield a modest 30 hl/ha, resulting in a wine of remarkable concentration, purity, and finesse.
Winemaking
De-stemming, manual sorting of berries on a vibrating table. Maceration for 24 hours in the press, followed by 48 hours in stainless steel vats, without extraction. Alcoholic fermentation with indigenous yeasts and malolactic fermentation. Aged on the lees in stainless steel vats for 7 months.
Tasting Note
Genesis is a bold, modern interpretation of what the Amboise terroir has to offer. Wild strawberries and raspberries dance on the palate. Lush, fresh and delicate. A rich mouthfeel leads to a fresh, mouth-watering finish, full of finesse.
