Producer Profile

Domaine Bonnigal-Bodet is located in Limeray (Amboise), in the heart of the Loire Valley. Having been handed down from father to son since 1927, the estate is now run by the fourth generation of the family and long-time best friends Jean Baptiste Bonnigal and Stéphane Bodet, who took over together in 2015.

The vineyards themselves are stretched across a large range of terroirs, with a multitude of local grape varities, including Chenin Blanc, Côt, Sauvignon Blanc and Pineau d’Aunis.

Viticulture

The wine is produced from organically and biodynamically farmed 25–35‑year‑old Côt vines rooted in flint, sand and clay‑limestone soils, which contribute to its aromatic purity and freshness. Grown in Limeray within the Touraine region, the estate’s commitment to organic certification and biodynamic conversion underpins the clarity and expressiveness of the fruit.

Winemaking

Crafted through carbonic maceration and whole‑cluster fermentation with indigenous yeasts over roughly ten days. It then undergoes six to eight months of ageing in neutral barrels, often on fine lees, resulting in a polished, lively wine with gentle texture.

Tasting Note

Delivers bright, supple flavours of blood orange, black plum and soft black cherry, lifted by tea‑spice tones, subtle white pepper and a hint of olive for a fresh, savoury edge. Its juicy dark‑fruit character, gentle structure and lightly tart finish make it an elegant and refreshing expression of Côt.

Food matching

Diabolicôt pairs beautifully with dishes such as black sesame tuna tataki or a rustic roasted‑tomato and thyme tart.
