Domaine de Suremain, Mercurey Rouge 1er Cru, Les Crets, Burgundy, France, 2022

Producer Profile
Domaine de Suremain comprises 18 hectares of vines spread across some of Mercurey's finest appellations.
The property has been in the same family for seven generations and is currently run by Yves Suremain, his wife Marie-Hélène and their son Loïc. Vineyards are situated on the high-slopes and mid-slopes facing to the south and east, in the heart of the appellation.
Viticulture
Le Cets is a 1.30 hectare south facing hillside plot on white limestone soil.
Winemaking
The vinification is done raw by vintage, in open wooden vats of 50 to 100 hectolitres, with balanced destemming and punching down. The vatting time is from 8 to 15 days depending on the vintage, the vintage and the potential of the grape. The temperatures of the ferment is controlled , but only if the need arises, so they keep the optimal natural typicity of each vintage. Aged in barrels (10 to 15% in new barrels in order to provide the quality aromas dispersed by the tannins of the raw wood, but without excess).
Tasting Note
Delightfully pure and vibrant, this wine offers fresh morning woodland aromas alongside crisp, juicy red fruits on both nose and palate. Energetic and lively, it features long, spicy tannins with subtle hints of tobacco, sandalwood, and a whisper of basil on the finish. A modern take on classic Burgundy tradition.
