Producer Profile

Philippe Bouzereau is the 9th generation of a family of vine-growers in Meursault.

Following on from his father he took responsibility for the management of this fine 18 hectare Domaine back in 2006, helped by his brother Charles. With the well-being of the vineyards at heart, his team practice minimum intervention to enable the vines to develop naturally and healthily. His emblematic wine is the 1.7ha monopole Meursault ‘Vieux Clos du Château de Cîteaux’, produced from a single parcel of vines planted by his father.

Viticulture

The Premier Cru vineyard ‘Les Genevrières’ lies on a gentle slope that ensures excellent drainage, while its east-facing orientation helps retain freshness in the grapes—contributing to the wine’s notable finesse. The soils are a mix of clay and limestone with a rocky substructure, offering both depth and vitality. The vineyard is cultivated according to sustainable principles: only organic fertilisers and composts are applied, and no chemical herbicides have been used for over 15 years.

Winemaking

The grapes were harvested at optimal ripeness, meticulously sorted, and gently pressed using a pneumatic press. Fermentation occurred in oak barrels on the lees, with regular bâtonnage to enhance texture and complexity. The wine was then aged for 12 months in the family’s cellars, in French oak barrels, 20–30% of which were new. The use of oak is carefully balanced, ensuring it supports rather than overshadows the distinctive terroir expression of the ‘Les Genevrières’ parcel.

Tasting Note

A quality Meursault which has beautiful balance between fruit, toast and minerality. Lifted fruit and floral notes and a nutty palate lead to a long finish.
