This seventh generation family-owned estate perfectly blends tradition with masterful winemaking, creating wines that authentically express the unique character of their vineyards. The story of Domaine Taupenot- Merme is woven through generations, each adding to the family’s rich legacy. With unwavering respect for tradition and a passion for excellence, they have built a portfolio that stands as a testament to their dedication to quality.

Viticulture

Mazoyères-Chambertin, a Grand Cru vineyard in Gevrey-Chambertin, boasts deep, well-drained limestone-rich clay soils with marl and gravel that provide excellent water retention and mineral complexity. Situated on gentle east to southeast-facing slopes at around 250–300 meters altitude, it benefits from optimal sunlight and a cooler climate that promotes balanced acidity and concentrated flavors. The vineyard’s location between forest and village shelters it from harsh winds and frost, creating a favourable microclimate. These terroir elements combine to produce Pinot Noir wines known for their depth, structure, vibrant minerality, and elegant, powerful fruit expression with great aging potential. The vines here are over 50 years old.

Winemaking

The domaine holds a deep respect for the art of aging. Their wines mature gracefully in oak barrels, gradually revealing complex layers and nuanced personalities. Balancing tradition with innovation, Domaine Taupenot-Merme embraces progress while staying true to their heritage, ensuring their wines continue to evolve without ever losing their essential character. Remarkably, despite the freshness and typicity of the wines, Romain achieves it without using whole bunch fermentation.

Tasting Note

Bold, rich, and intense, this wine is beautifully accented by herbal notes woven through the dark fruit. It promises to develop wonderfully with age.
