DOMAINE TAUPENOT-MERME, France

Under the expert guidance of Romain Taupenot, this Morey-based domaine has risen to become one of the standout producers in the Côte de Nuits in Morey Saint Denis, crafting wines renowned for their depth, structure, freshness, and complexity.

This seventh generation family-owned estate perfectly blends tradition with masterful winemaking, creating wines that authentically express the unique character of their vineyards. The story of Domaine Taupenot-Merme is woven through generations, each adding to the family’s rich legacy. With unwavering respect for tradition and a passion for excellence, they have built a portfolio that stands as a testament to their dedication to quality.

Viticulture

Vines spread over 20 appellations in the Côte de Beaune and the Côte de Nuits. From the powerful intensity of Gevrey-Chambertin to the delicate finesse of Chambolle-Musigny, each bottle from Domaine Taupenot-Merme truly reflects the unique character of its terroir. Many of Romain’s parcels lie on some of the higher sites in Morey and Gevrey, resulting in grapes with impressive acidity alongside remarkable concentration and ripeness. Domaine Taupenot-Merme practices organic viticulture across its 32 hectares of vineyards. While the estate has adhered to organic principles since 2002, it has not pursued official certification. This approach allows the family to maintain flexibility in their farming methods while upholding a commitment to sustainable and environmentally respectful practices.

Winemaking

The domaine holds a deep respect for the art of aging. Their wines mature gracefully in oak barrels, gradually revealing complex layers and nuanced personalities. The Morey-Saint-Denis showcases lush fruit, while the Charmes-Chambertin epitomises refined structure and elegance. Balancing tradition with innovation, Domaine Taupenot-Merme embraces progress while staying true to their heritage, ensuring their wines continue to evolve without ever losing their essential character. Remarkably, despite the freshness and typicity of the wines, Romain achieves it without using whole bunch fermentation.
