Domaine Vacheron, Sancerre Rouge, Loire, France, 2022

Producer Profile
Domaine Vacheron is a prestigious family-run estate located in Sancerre, with a history dating back to 1898.
Renowned for crafting some of the finest Sauvignon Blancs in the Loire Valley, the domaine combines tradition with modern precision to express the unique terroir of Sancerre. Today, it is led by fourth-generation winemaker Franck Vacheron, who continues to uphold the estate’s commitment to quality and elegance.
Viticulture
Meticulous biodynamic and organic viticulture, certified since 2005. All grapes are hand-harvested to ensure optimal fruit quality and minimal impact on the vines and soil. Their Pinot Noir is grown on a mosaic of flint (silex) and chalk soils, which impart finesse, minerality, and structure to the final wine.
Winemaking
In the cellar, the philosophy is one of minimal intervention: fermentation is carried out using indigenous yeasts, preserving the natural expression of the terroir. The wine is aged in a combination of French oak barriques and large foudres, allowing gentle oxygenation and subtle integration of oak while maintaining the wine’s purity and elegance. This thoughtful, low-intervention approach results in a Sancerre Rouge of precision, aromatic clarity, and mineral depth.
Tasting Note
Aromas of dark cherry and ripe plum lead on the nose, layered with sweet floral notes of rose petal and nuanced hints of smoke, toasted nuts, and a savoury, veal-stock depth. The palate is medium-bodied and refined, offering both concentration and elegance. A supple texture is balanced by vibrant acidity and a gently grippy phenolic structure, giving the wine poise, length, and a polished finish.
Food Matching
Try it with grilled or roasted poultry (such as herb-marinated chicken or duck breast) or charcuterie boards.
