Producer Profile
Curators, collaborators and custodians of English winemaking, art and nature, Artelium is a boutique estate in the heart of East Sussex crafting exceptional English still and sparkling wines.
Founded by Mark Collins and Julie Bretland in 2020, it is the embodiment of a long-held vision to create a space for people to come together and enjoy wine and art in a beautiful natural setting. The area has a proud heritage of artisans, which Mark and Julie wanted to celebrate by being a hub for artistic expression and innovative winemaking. Artelium sees each vintage as an opportunity to create pioneering styles of wine that will shape the future of the industry.
Viticulture
Madehurst and Streat are two contrasting vineyard sites in Sussex. Madehurst sits high in the South Downs on chalk rich soils, a landscape well suited to growing classic sparkling wine varieties thanks to its elevation and free draining chalk profile. Streat, located between Ditchling and Plumpton, lies on 20 acres of heavier clay soils and supports around 40,000 vines, offering a different expression of the same core varieties—Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier, and small parcels of Pinot Gris as well as Divico.
Winemaking
Crafted with precision, finished with a playful twist, Lil’Dizzy is a sparkling rosé which is easy to drink as it is hard to pin down. A carefully considered blend of Meunier, Chardonnay, and Pinot Noir spent six months in oak barriques before a splash of Divico was added for colour and character, ahead of its second fermentation and seven months resting on lees for texture and depth.
Tasting Note
A lovely Rosé colour. On the nose, expect sweet-sour cherries, crushed raspberries and rose petals. The palate bursts with crunchy Granny Smith apple, tart red berries, rhubarb tang and a whisper of umami with smoked wood on the finish. Bright, expressive and brimming with personality, it’s a wine for friends, feasts, and just-one-more-glass moments.
