Curators, collaborators and custodians of English winemaking, art and nature, Artelium is a boutique estate in the heart of East Sussex crafting exceptional English still and sparkling wines.

Founded by Mark Collins and Julie Bretland in 2020, it is the embodiment of a long-held vision to create a space for people to come together and enjoy wine and art in a beautiful natural setting. The area has a proud heritage of artisans, which Mark and Julie wanted to celebrate by being a hub for artistic expression and innovative winemaking. Artelium sees each vintage as an opportunity to create pioneering styles of wine that will shape the future of the industry.

Viticulture

The Pinot Noir Reserve is a wine of poise and quiet confidence, made from Burgundian clone 828 from their Madehurst vineyard.

Winemaking

Fermented in stainless steel open-top fermenters, with twice-daily pump-overs. After fermentation the wine was inoculated for malolactic conversion. It was then aged for nine months in four new 500 L barrels (75% French, 25% American), filtered and bottled, and rested a further nine months in bottle before release.

Tasting Note

This is Pinot in a savoury, structured mood, a wine that invites you to slow down and take notice. The aromas are perfumed yet grounded: cranberry, black cherry and raspberry mingle with dried fruit and floral rose, underscored by cedar and tobacco leaf. On the palate it is tense and textural, with lively acidity, fresh red fruit and grippy tannins carrying through to a long, hazelnut finish.

Food Matching

Pour it with roast duck, mushroom wellington or charcuterie, where its savoury character comes into its own.
