Artelium, Skinny Gris, East Sussex, England, 2023
Producer Profile
Curators, collaborators and custodians of English winemaking, art and nature, Artelium is a boutique estate in the heart of East Sussex crafting exceptional English still and sparkling wines.
Founded by Mark Collins and Julie Bretland in 2020, it is the embodiment of a long-held vision to create a space for people to come together and enjoy wine and art in a beautiful natural setting. The area has a proud heritage of artisans, which Mark and Julie wanted to celebrate by being a hub for artistic expression and innovative winemaking. Artelium sees each vintage as an opportunity to create pioneering styles of wine that will shape the future of the industry.
Viticulture
One of the first grapes to ripen out of all of their grapes , these grapes turn bright pink and are very flavourful because of the clay soils, small berries and medium size bunches.
Winemaking
100% Pinot Gris.Crushed and given twelve days of skin contact during initial fermentation in two tanks. Blended into French oak barriques (50% new) for six months before bottling.
Tasting Note
A characterful dry orange rosé colour thanks to the skin contact, with bright, mouth-watering acidity and crunchy tannins. The palate is intense and juicy, with flavours of pink rose petals, mixed red berries with woody undertones from barrel ageing. An energetic wine with some tension that will loosen with age.
Food matching
Beautiful alongside flavourful salads, grilled fish, or lighter meat dishes.
