Domaine Darviot-Perrin, Meursault, Les Corbins, Burgundy, France ***On Allocation***, 2023
Producer Profile
Domaine Darviot-Perrin was established in 1989 by Didier Darviot and Geneviève Perrin, merging the estates of Pierre Perrin-Ponsot and Henri-Jean Darviot.
Geneviève’s father, Pierre Perrin, was a renowned figure in Meursault and Volnay winemaking circles. The domaine spans 11ha across a clutch of prestigious Burgundy communes, including Meursault, Volnay, Chassagne-Montrachet, Monthelie, Pommard and Beaune. In 2019, Didier’s son, Pierre-Antonin Darviot, took over the winemaking duties after a distinguished career in the French Foreign Office. He is the 10th generation of the family to lead the estate and has since transitioned the domaine to certified organic farming, with certification achieved in 2022.
Viticulture
Domaine Darviot-Perrin is transitioning to organic farming, with certification expected for the 2024 vintage. The estate spans 9 hectares across Meursault, Chassagne-Montrachet, Volnay, and Monthelie. Vineyards are ploughed, and organic compost is used as fertiliser. The average age of the vines is 60 years, with some over 90 years old.
Winemaking
The grapes undergo whole-cluster pressing, followed by fermentation in 228-liter oak barrels, with approximately 15% new oak. The wine is aged for 12 months in barrels, then 7 months in vats. Minimal intervention is practiced to preserve the purity and expression of the terroir.
Tasting Note
A luminous lemon-lime hue. The nose is expressive, offering aromas of ripe citrus fruits, toasted nuts, honey, and almonds. On the palate, it is full-bodied with a creamy texture, showcasing great purity of fruit and a long, lingering finish.
Food matching
Oven-roasted quail or cornish hen, crab cakes or crab claws.
