Domaine Tortochot, Gevrey-Chambertin, Champerrier Vieilles Vignes, Burgundy, France, 2023

Producer Profile
Domaine Tortochot is a renowned family estate currently led by fourth-generation winemaker Chantal Tortochot, who took over from her father in the late 1990s.
The domaine manages 12ha of vineyards divided into 34 distinct parcels, including vines in Lavaux Saint-Jacques adjacent to the famed Clos Saint-Jacques. Known for producing traditional-style Gevrey wines, Chantal’s are celebrated for their chiselled fruit, structured tannins and bright acidity, which reflect the true Burgundian character.
Viticulture
The vines are spread over 34 separate parcels (72 ha), with vine avg age. of 60 yrs; includes some of the most enviable sites in Burgundy, featuring plots in the Grands Crus of Chambertin (most northern section of the vineyard), Mazis-Chambertin and Charmes-Chambertin, as well some beautifully positioned 1er Crus including the rows of vines in 1er Cru ‘Lavaux Saint-Jacques’ bordering the famous ‘Clos Saint-Jacques’. Chantal makes traditional style Gevrey, lots of chiselled fruit, structured tannins with bright acidity - there’s style in these wines.
Winemaking
The grapes are fully destemmed, and fermentation temperatures are carefully controlled before the wines are transferred to medium-toast oak barrels for cellaring, where malolactic fermentation occurs. The Domaine prioritises natural methods, avoiding chemical substances, as Chantal believes in maintaining soil's natural balance. Maturation: in a combination of new and used oak barrels (small % new) for up to 18 months.
