Producer Profile

Philippe Bouzereau is the 9th generation of a family of vine-growers in Meursault.

Following on from his father he took responsibility for the management of this fine 18 hectare Domaine back in 2006, helped by his brother Charles. With the well-being of the vineyards at heart, his team practice minimum intervention to enable the vines to develop naturally and healthily. His emblematic wine is the 1.7ha monopole Meursault ‘Vieux Clos du Château de Cîteaux’, produced from a single parcel of vines planted by his father.

Viticulture

Meursault ‘Les Grands Charrons’ is sourced from a 0.95ha parcel with vines aged 35-60 years. Deep lay topped by stony surface soils. No chemical fertilisers or weed killers.

Winemaking

As with work in the vineyard, so too is with work in the cellar meticulous: all treatments/actions are carried out only if absolutely necessary, with the aim as being as non-interventionist as possible. Throughout the vinification they practise simplicity, observation and vigilance, pneumatic pressing with fermentation using only natural yeasts and modest levels of new oak. All the wines are barrel fermented and aged for 12-18 months in 20% (avg) new oak casks in the cellars. Aged on fine lees with regular bâtonnage (where and when needed) using modest levels of new oak, 12 months in French oak (20% new), then transferred to stainless-steel tank.

Tasting Note

Ripe yellow apple, white peach, toasted hazelnut, and fresh butter, alongside delicate hints of vanilla bean, citrus zest, and flinty minerality. The palate is rich and creamy yet balanced by vibrant acidity and a textured mouthfeel. Flavours of apricot, almond, honeycomb, and a subtle smoky note.

Food Matching

Grilled artichokes with lemon aioli or cauliflower gratin with Gruyère also work beautifully.
